Congratulations on your new bundle of joy! You are nearing your end to the 56 days wonderful days at home and now it’s time to go back to work. How many what ifs are swirling in your head right about now?
If you are anything like me, a ton of what ifs are spilling out. First, catch your breath! Then, understand that all mom’s have these questions. Let’s dissect some of these concerns.
What if the daycare doesn’t feed her? Daycare workers fill out a chart showing your baby’s activities all day. From feedings to diaper changes, it’s all there complete with notes from the workers.
What if my car brakes down and I am late picking her up? Next, if an emergency happens your daycare already has a plan in place. They have you fill out an emergency contact list of names. Your spouse, parents, sister or lastly your best friend will be called until either you call the daycare back with arrangements or someone else (from your list) picks up the baby. They even need to bring their ID to sign out your child.
What if she won’t take her bottle or just cries the whole time? When a baby is hungry enough, she will take her bottle. It’s an adjustment period for everyone but keep in mind it’s mostly all about you. She will forget you in about 10 minutes and rely on the workers. So if she starts crying, don’t fret. It’s a horrible feeling walking away but really she will stop in a few minutes. When you come back at pick up time, she will still be your gooey, little pumpkin.
What if I just quit this job and stay home? Going back to work, right now, in this economy is tricky. Everyone who has a job wants to keep their job. Some family may question your judgment about wanting to stay home. They may even suggest that it’s just the first time mommy blues and it’ll pass. If you are feeling like staying home is the right thing to do, don’t let others meddle. This is a financial and emotional decision that you and your spouse should make together.
Hope this helped some of your what ifs. The point is to calm your anxiety to go back to work before you even have to go.
