Are you trying to be super mama or something? Working fulltime and trying to be classroom parent will do only one thing… run you ragged. We do so much for others and still try to work to maintain it all financially. I have got some questions for all those hard working mommies. All I ask is that you answer them with absolute honesty.
- Am I working because I have to or because I want to avoid home life?
- Do I have to agree to overtime or can I pass it by?
- Would taking a part-time job still provide financially?
- Can I cut outgoing expenses by quitting work or going part-time?
There’s nothing wrong with enjoying your work. But if you find you’re only working to avoid your bebe kids then in the words of my Grammy B: “honey, child, start payin’ close mind to your childrens.”
One way to do this is to check with your employer about flex-time, job sharing, or work at home from a company laptop. Here’s an idea take a personal day and make into a mini-vacation with the kids. Eat shish-ca-bobs and tropical fruit smoothies in the winter and lay around all day reading great stories.
Daycare expenses are on the rise. Your human resources can steer you to the daycare child exempt for extra savings. If you went part-time, and worked around your spouse’s schedule this could cut out daycare completely. My husband and I did this when the children were little and it worked out great. We both worked about 20 to 30 hours a week and with no daycare expense and made almost as much if we both worked full time.
It was less stressful, we only gave up going out to dinner and we bonded more with the kids. Maybe financially you can’t go part-time. But every hard working mom needs a break once and awhile, schedule the mini-vaca soon!
