I was sitting in Church service the other day gazing at the very slim figure of one of the ministers. I looked down at my own frame which was very slim but prone to the temptation of several foods that often made it flabby or made the scale teeter just 3 pounds over my ideal weight about once each month.
As a sat looking at her frame I had a faint memory of a thought I got one day. It went like this “If you could have the guarantee to be thin all your life, but you could never ever eat another piece of bread, would you do it?” Yes….. I thought, I would, and I don’t believe there was any hesitation. Why did this thought occur to me? Well, I know that white bread is often the culprit when it comes to weight loss. I know that one of the methods for quick easy weight loss is to stop eating anything that’s white. I know that even a serving of wheat pasta has a lot of calories in it compared to a serving of grapes or vegetables.
I know that I love bread. That means fresh baked bread, banana nut bread, soft pretzels, other things in bread form like wheat thins or other types of crackers. In fact, I like these things so much that I could eat an entire box of them in one sitting. Pizza calls my name from the pizza shop. Whenever they have any kind of bread thing at work, it almost seems impossible for me to resist eating it….and getting seconds and thirds of it. If they order pizza on the job, I’m hoping there will be a box left over so I can take it home. The temptation is so bad that even if there’s a food sitting out that I know is filled with calories, like doughnuts for instance, I just still have to have not one, but two of them, and that’s only because it’s bread.
So as a looked down at my slightly bubbly looking stomach, and my flabby arms…I got a thought in my head….”just give up the bread.” Yes, that would be my key to quick easy weight loss. However, I thought to myself, surely I cannot give up bread. What about the nutrients. I just love it so much. Everyone eats bread.
Well, as I looked at the nice thin frame of the minister, I raised my hand and asked, “do you eat bread?” The answer: no…I may have a slice every once in a while, but regularly I don’t.
Why didn’t she? Because she knew that it was the enemy when it came to maintaining weight, at least it was her own personal enemy. So I thought to myself if she can do it, I can do it too. And yesterday, I only had two slices of wheat bread. I got my grains in by eating some Bare Naked cereal in the morning. It has plenty of oats in it, and for a snack I had two granola bars. Soon, I will go for days without eating bread at all, and getting whole grains in by eating something else. And it’s working, I tell you I can already see a less flabby stomach emerging. Bread was my weight sabotager for sure. Now..the question is…what’s yours? Look for it. It’s the best way to find quick easy weight loss.
